Talking to a Stranger

I was at the gym earlier this week, and I can't stand when people talk to me when I'm working out, so I was very hesitant to say hi to the woman next to me on the treadmill. She wasn't running, so I knew it was alright to talk to her. After breaking the awkward silence, we ended up talking about the weather, how beautiful it was and how we both like to come to the gym early in the morning because it's not as crowded like it is later in the day. She was sweet, and when I saw her again the next day we both waved, smiled, and said hi!

Second Life

The first time I was on second life, I was on there for over 2 hours trying to make up my avatar her just the way I wanted to. However, I didn't really go on it too much besides for on class activities. When I was on it, I really did like it! My favorite thing was flying and teleporting. I thought all the different abilities were really interactive and I could really see how wonderful it is for disabled people. Flying, talking, dancing, sitting, walking etc. All of these components can enhance peoples imaginations, and even I was impressed with the things I could do on it. I think secondlife is smart in setting up a maturity rating so children exploring on here can't get into places that are inappropriate. One thing I didn't like on here was how someone else could teleport me if they didn't want me around anymore. It was good in the sense that it was used for class to get everyone together, but I feel like that could lower self esteem and cause other problems if you teleport someone away from where they're at. I like this a lot more than the sims because you can do so much more and go so many more places, but the only downfall if having to pay for Linden Dollars. It doesn't allow people like me who are just here to look around and have fun with it, really experience it to its fullest potential because I have to buy lindin dollars to do things. I would recommend this to people who have spare time and want to see different areas, get to know different people, and do different things.

I thought this was a good article because it talks about all the new media under the Revolutionary in a Coal Mine- tweeting, ipad, iphone, texting, etc. This article talks about how this is the new media era and why as well as how long an average teen spends with media per week (53 Hours).

Do you feel that you converse more with people in a CMM type of way rather than a face to face interaction? If so, how do do it?

The Pope Tells Priests

I feel that this article is different. The Pope would have been the last person I would have ever thought to get in touch with his CMM skills. I think that this is a good idea though because it gives other people a chance to stay in tune with whats going on in the Vatican as well as other areas. The Pope seems to stress that he doesn't want this to change a priests "heart" but just keep them in tune with the other "flocks". I think many more people will end up going to church because of this new display of technology by the Pope because if the Pope is blogging, people are going to follow him, and ultimatley maybe attend church more than usual.
